Kirsten & Jake’s Engagement Session at Cathedral of Ferns

Some love stories are so unique and heartfelt they feel like they’re straight out of a romantic movie. Kirsten and Jake’s journey to love is one of those tales — full of twists, laughter, and moments that leave you saying, “This could be a screenplay!”

When Kirsten and Jake entered my giveaway for an engagement session, they shared their incredible story and suggested a meaningful location: the Cathedral of Ferns bush walk in Mount Wilson. The ferns symbolize Kirsten’s New Zealand heritage and hold a special place in their hearts, as this is where they celebrated their two-year anniversary. It was the perfect backdrop for their session, and I couldn’t wait to bring their vision to life.

A Love Story Years in the Making

Kirsten and Jake’s connection dates all the way back to kindergarten, where their friendship first began. Over the years, their bond grew stronger, but it wasn’t without its hilarious misunderstandings. From near-confessions and awkward moments to both of them unknowingly being on the same page about their feelings but thinking the other wasn’t, their story is a charming mix of serendipity and patience.

After years of friendship, countless long phone calls, and more than one missed cue, they finally got on the same page in 2021 and started dating. Earlier this year, Jake proposed during a magical trip to Hamilton Island, solidifying their journey from childhood friends to soulmates.

Kirsten and Jake’s engagement session was nothing short of magical. The Cathedral of Ferns provided a lush, vibrant setting with its towering trees and verdant foliage. Kirsten’s idea of wearing timeless outfits in black and white, paired with the striking green backdrop, created an elegant and dreamy aesthetic. Her second outfit, a warm rust-colored dress, added a touch of earthy romance to the session.

As we wandered through the bush walk, we captured a mix of candid and posed shots. From quiet moments of them holding hands to bursts of laughter that lit up the entire forest, their love for each other radiated in every frame. One of the most memorable moments was when we played with light effects on the road—a dreamy sprinkle of magic that made their session feel straight out of a fairy tale.
